AI May Bring Specialist Care to Rural India, Training Lags

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is a computer technology that can do smart things like reading medical scans and organizing patient records.

Many doctors in India are excited because AI could help bring specialist healthcare to villages and small towns.

In a big survey, four out of five doctors said AI could improve healthcare for people in rural areas.

The survey also found that seven out of ten doctors said AI helps them see more patients every week.

But there is a big problem: many doctors have not been properly trained to use AI.

Almost half of the doctors in the survey said their AI training was limited or not consistent.

Most doctors also agree that a human doctor must always make the final decision.

AI should help doctors, not replace them.

In rural places, AI could help doctors spot emergencies like strokes faster and connect with specialists in cities.

If doctors get good training and strong support, AI could truly help rural patients, but without that, it might not make care better.
