Hyderabad Expands GHMC to Largest Civic Body
The government of Telangana has made the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) the biggest city government in India.
They added 27 smaller city areas to GHMC, making it three times bigger than before.
Now, GHMC has 12 zones and 300 smaller areas called wards.
A new officer named Jayesh Ranjan will help manage the bigger city.
The government says this change will help them take better care of the city and its people.
The new boundaries are posted in public places so everyone can see them.
The city is now as big as the country Mauritius and three times the size of Singapore.
The government plans to count the population in a few years to see how many people live in the new GHMC area.
The GHMC has been expanded to include 300 wards and 12 zones, making it the largest municipal corporation in India.
The government created a new post of special chief secretary for metropolitan area and urban development, appointing Jayesh Ranjan to the role.
The expanded GHMC now covers 2,000 square kilometers, three times its previous size, and includes six new zones.
The government has appointed new zonal commissioners for the expanded GHMC areas.
The expansion aims to improve administration, service delivery, and convenience for the growing population of over 1.34 crore.
