Eastern Railway to eliminate non-interlocked Level Crossing gates
Eastern Railway is working to make train travel safer by changing old crossing gates to new, high-tech ones.
These new gates are connected to the train signals, so trains can only move when the gates are completely closed.
This prevents accidents caused by human mistakes.
They are also building tunnels and underpasses so that cars and people can cross under the train tracks safely.
There are still some old gates left, but the railway is working quickly to replace them all.
This is happening after a recent accident in Berhampore, West Bengal, where five people, including three schoolchildren, died.
The railway's boss, Milind Deouskar, is leading this big project to make train travel safer for everyone.
Eastern Railway is converting non-interlocked Level Crossing gates to interlocked ones to prevent accidents.
Interlocked gates are electronically synchronized with the signaling system to eliminate human error.
The railway is also building Road Under Bridges (RUBs) and Limited Height Subways (LHS) for safer crossings.
Out of 906 manned LC gates, 807 are already interlocked, leaving 99 non-interlocked gates.
The project is being spearheaded by ER general manager Milind Deouskar across four divisions.

Proponents of Interlocked Gates
Interlocked gates significantly reduce the risk of accidents by eliminating human error.
Critics of Infrastructure Changes
Critics argue that the high cost of infrastructure changes could be better spent on other safety measures.
