Odisha Coastline Damaged by Cyclone, Repair Work Underway
Imagine a special wall made of strong tubes to stop the ocean from eating away the land in a coastal area of India.
A big storm, like a super strong wind and wave maker called a cyclone, hit the area and broke a part of this special wall.
This wall was built years ago to keep villages safe from the sea.
Now, important people from the government have gone to see the broken wall.
They have also told the company that built it to fix it quickly.
This is important because the wall helps protect villages from big waves that can cause damage.
A geo-synthetic-tube sea wall in Odisha's Kendrapara district was damaged by Cyclone Montha.
The wall was built about a decade ago to prevent sea erosion in vulnerable coastal areas.
Senior officials have visited the site to assess the damage and expedite repairs.
A Pune-based company that installed the structure has been contacted to rebuild the damaged parts.
The sea wall project was part of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Programme and funded by the World Bank.
