Dance and Drama: Adaptations of Tagore's Chitrangada and Ghanashyam
Two dance performances were recently staged.
One, 'Ruper Atit Rup,' was an adaptation of Tagore's play 'Chitrangada' that explored themes of beauty and womanhood.
It was a dance drama directed by Pramita Mullick.
The second, 'Ghanashyam,' was a Bharatanatyam performance by Sayani Chakraborty.
It used the monsoon clouds as a metaphor for Krishna and delved into the spirit of devotion.
Both performances showcased different dance styles and interpretations of classic themes.
Ruper Atit Rup, an adaptation of 'Chitrangada,' merged dance and lyrical play at Rabindra Sadan.
The production explored gender discrimination and the essence of feminine beauty.
Purbita Mukhopadhyay portrayed the protagonist, with choreography blending multiple dance traditions.
Sayani Chakraborty presented Ghanashyam at the Suvarna Festival 2025.
Ghanashyam used monsoon clouds as a metaphor for Krishna, delving into the spirit of Bhakti.
