AIIMS Guwahati Launches Cardiac Programme With Two Open-Heart Surgeries

AIIMS Guwahati has started a new programme for heart surgeries.

Doctors performed two open-heart operations on the same day.

One patient was a seven-year-old child.

The other was a 47-year-old woman.

Both had a birth-related heart problem involving a hole in the heart.

Doctors used a heart-lung machine during the operations.

The surgeries were led by Professor Colonel Dr Ashok Puranik.

The hospital hopes this programme will help people get treatment closer to home.

It plans to add more complex heart operations in the future.
