Steve Smith to captain NSW in Sheffield Shield after 8-year absence

A famous cricket player named Steve Smith is going to be the captain of the New South Wales (NSW) team again after a long time, eight years to be exact.

He'll lead the team in an important game called the Sheffield Shield against another team from Victoria.

Some of his teammates are also part of the big Australian team that plays against other countries.

This game is special because it helps Steve and his teammates get ready for a very important series of games called the Ashes.

It's also a chance for them to practice playing together.

This match is also played for a special old trophy that celebrates a long-standing rivalry between NSW and Victoria.

Even though Steve is captain for this game, the usual captain, Jack Edwards, will still play and is seen as a future leader too.
