Karnataka Traffic Fines Backlog Reaches Rs 3,006 Crore Despite Discounts

Karnataka has many traffic tickets that people have not paid.

From 2019 to August 2026, the state recorded 8.16 crore traffic violations.

More than 5.53 crore cases are still unpaid, adding up to about ₹3,006.70 crore in fines.

Bengaluru makes up a large share of the unpaid cases and money.

Police are considering ways to encourage people to pay, including making payment necessary for a vehicle Fitness Certificate.

They are also considering whether unpaid fines could affect insurance renewal.

Officials say many violations are recorded by cameras, and some vehicle records have old addresses.

They also think some people may wait because they expect another discount.
