India Sugar Production Expected to End With Carryover Stock
The Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) predicts the current sugar season, ending in September, will produce 262 lakh tonnes of sugar after diverting 33 lakh tonnes for ethanol.
This season's production until May 15 reached 257.44 lakh tonnes, a decrease from the previous season's 316.33 lakh tonnes.
Favorable monsoons in Karnataka and Maharashtra are boosting sugarcane planting.
The northern belt is expected to see positive outcomes from varietal replacement initiatives.
A normal monsoon is also forecasted, which should help cane production next season.
The current sugar season is estimated to end with a carryover stock of 52 lakh tonnes.
Net sugar production is projected at 262 lakh tonnes after ethanol diversion.
Production until May 15 was 257.44 lakh tonnes, less than the previous year.
535 factories started production, with 533 having stopped.
Favorable monsoons and varietal replacement should help production.
