Ambani Appeals Supreme Court on Fraud Tag
Anil Ambani, a big businessman, is asking the Supreme Court for help.
A lower court, the Bombay High Court, said that a bank, the State Bank of India, was right to call his company's loans 'fraud'.
This means he can't get loans from big banks anymore.
He doesn't like this and wants the Supreme Court to change the decision.
He says the bank didn't give him a fair chance to explain before making this decision.
The bank says he and his company did things that broke the rules of the loans, and this caused a big loss of money.
The Supreme Court will now decide if the lower court was right or wrong.
Anil Ambani has appealed to the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court's decision upholding SBI's fraud classification of his and Reliance Communications' loan accounts.
The Bombay High Court dismissed Ambani's plea, stating there was no merit in the challenge against SBI's decision.
Ambani argues that SBI did not follow procedural fairness, as he was not granted a hearing before the classification and certain documents were withheld initially.
SBI classified the accounts as fraud, alleging misappropriation of funds and transactions that violated loan terms, leading to a complaint with the CBI.
The CBI registered a complaint based on SBI's claim of a loss of ₹2,929.05 crore due to alleged misappropriation by Reliance Communications and Anil Ambani.
