Dulquer Salmaan Was Nearly Launched by Shyamaprasad’s Ritu
Not Second Show, Dulquer Salmaan was supposed to debut in trendsetter that launched Asif Ali · indianexpress.com

Dulquer Salmaan became a popular Malayalam actor after debuting in Second Show in 2012.

However, he was almost given his first movie role several years earlier.

Director Shyamaprasad had planned to cast him in Ritu, released in 2009.

That plan did not happen.

Ritu later became the first film for actors including Asif Ali, Rima Kallingal, Nishan, and Vinay Forrt.

Shyamaprasad shared this story at an event for Dulquer’s new movie, I’m Game.

Dulquer said he chose I’m Game because its challenging role frightened him.

The film is scheduled to reach theaters worldwide on September 3.

Quotes

Dulquer Salmaan

Malayalam actor and I’m Game lead

“Some time back, I made a decision that I would attempt roles I am most afraid of from now on. If it feels familiar, I might take it lightly. Now, when I hear a script and it makes me think, ‘How will I do this?’ I take it on. When I heard I’m Game’s narration, I got scared, thinking about how I would pull it off.”

“I’ve known Dulquer for a long time. When I was shooting Ore Kadal (2007) with Mammootty in Chennai, Dulquer was young, and he used to come play cricket nearby. I was supposed to cast him in my film Ritu. It was almost there, but it didn’t happen, unfortunately.”
