Calcutta HC Grants Interim Protection to TMC MP Mahua Moitra
The Calcutta High Court has given temporary protection to Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra from any harsh police actions in a hate speech case.
This protection lasts until October 5, as long as she cooperates with the investigation.
The court said she can be protected because the punishment for the alleged offenses is less than seven years.
Moitra's lawyer asked the court to make sure she is not harassed when she appears before the investigating officer.
The state, however, said Moitra had not followed previous notices to appear.
The court will hear the case again on October 1.
