India Registers High-Yielding Synthetic Cattle Breeds
India has officially registered two new types of cows, Karan Fries and Vrindavani, which can produce a lot more milk than regular cows.
These cows were created through years of scientific research and are a mix of different cow breeds.
The government hopes these cows will help meet the growing demand for milk in the country.
Along with these, 14 other new types of animals, like chickens and ducks, were also registered.
This is part of India's plan to improve farming and protect different types of animals.
India has registered two high-yielding synthetic cattle breeds, Karan Fries and Vrindavani, capable of producing over 3,000 kg of milk in a 10-month lactation period.
Karan Fries is a cross between Tharparkar and Holstein-Friesian breeds, developed by the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI).
Vrindavani is a blend of Holstein-Friesian, Brown Swiss, Jersey, and Hariana breeds, developed by the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI).
The registration of these breeds is part of a broader initiative that includes 14 other new livestock and poultry varieties, bringing the total registered breeds to 246.
The government aims to use these breeds to meet domestic milk demand and ensure nutritional security through science-led livestock management.
