Jabalpur High Court Gives State Four Weeks on Teachers' Benefits

The Madhya Pradesh High Court told the state government to act within four weeks on a dispute about teachers’ service benefits.

The teachers want their work history to be counted from when they first joined in 1998.

The government had used April 1, 2007, as the important date.

The teachers also want benefits from the Sixth Pay Commission starting in 2006.

These changes could affect about 70,000 teachers.

Some teachers could receive higher monthly salaries and money owed from earlier years.

A group of 497 teachers brought a contempt case because they said the earlier order had not been followed.

The court will consider the matter again during the week beginning October 21.
