81 Killed as Houthis Push Toward Key Red Sea Chokepoint

Fighting has intensified in Yemen between the Houthi movement and government forces.

The Houthis are supported by Iran, while the government forces are supported by Saudi Arabia.

At least 81 people were reportedly killed, including 42 Houthi militants and 39 government personnel.

The Houthis used soldiers, rockets, and drones in attacks near Yemen's coast.

They reportedly captured high ground near Khokha and Taiz.

From these positions, they may be able to threaten government forces and ships.

The Houthis want to isolate the port city of Mokha and move closer to the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Bab al-Mandab is a narrow waterway connecting the Red Sea with the Indian Ocean and routes toward the Suez Canal.

The government sent more troops to Taiz as the fighting continued.
