India SIPs Averaged 8.4% as US Markets Led Global Comparison
The analysis looked at monthly investments made over many different five-year periods in 10 markets.
It measured how those investments performed in US dollars.
The Nasdaq-100 had the highest average return, followed by the S&P 500.
India’s average return was 8.4%.
Nearly all of India’s five-year results were positive, and most fell between 6% and 12%.
Some other markets had more negative outcomes.
Investing a fixed amount regularly can spread purchases across different market prices.
But it does not promise that you will make money.
An analysis compared 120 rolling five-year monthly SIP periods across 10 markets from October 2016 to September 2026, with returns measured in US dollars.
The Nasdaq-100 had the highest average annualized return, or XIRR, at 19.1%, followed by the S&P 500 at 13.7%.
India averaged 8.4%; 98% of its five-year outcomes were positive, and 87% returned between 6% and 12%.
India's best and worst five-year outcomes were 13% and -0.9%; France averaged 7.1%, while other listed non-US markets averaged less.
SIPs do not guarantee gains: regular investing can spread purchases across market levels but cannot shield investors from prolonged weak markets.
