Steel Ministry Approves Arcelor Mittal Slurry Pipeline Project
Imagine a big steel factory is being built in Anakapalle.
To make the steel, it needs iron ore, which is like the main ingredient.
This iron ore is currently brought by trucks and trains.
The government has now given permission for a special pipe, like a giant straw, to be built.
This pipe will carry the iron ore from where it's found in places like Chhattisgarh all the way to the factory.
This is good because it's a cleaner way to move the ore and won't use up the roads or train tracks as much.
The Ministry of Steel has approved the laying of a slurry pipeline for Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel's project.
The pipeline will transport iron ore slurry from Chhattisgarh to Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh, passing through Malkangiri, Odisha.
The project has invoked the Petroleum and Minerals Pipeline (Acquisition of Right of User in Land) Act, 1962, for the right-of-way.
This approval facilitates the development of a 17 MTPA steel plant in Anakapalle, with an 8.2 MTPA capacity in the first phase.
The pipeline is intended to provide an environmentally friendly alternative to current road and rail transportation of iron ore.
