India and UK Sign FTA to Boost Trade and Cut Tariffs
India and the UK have made a deal to trade more easily!
It's like a special agreement where they won't charge taxes on many products going between the two countries.
This means it'll be cheaper for British people to buy Indian things like textiles and easier for Indian businesses to export goods like craft drinks.
This trade deal is expected to make business between the two countries worth billions more each year.
However, some items from India like dairy products won't be part of this easy trade, to help protect local farmers.
India and the UK signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on Thursday, aiming to boost bilateral trade.
The FTA will eliminate tariffs on approximately 99% of Indian exports to the UK.
The agreement will provide easier access to the UK market for Indian craft beverages like feni and toddy.
The deal is expected to increase trade by approximately $34 billion annually.
The agreement protects Indian farmers by excluding dairy products, edible oils, and apples from zero-duty trade.
