AMU Students Block Hospital Transfer of Hunger-Striking Leader

Yasser Fahad is a student at Aligarh Muslim University.

He had been refusing food for 15 days to protest the lack of student union elections.

When university staff tried to take him to a hospital because his health was getting worse, other students stopped them.

The university said it wanted doctors to help him and would let him return to the protest afterward.

The protesting students said they cared about his health but wanted the university to announce election dates.

The protests also reached some women's hostels.

The university teachers' association also called for elections to university bodies.
