IndiGo CEO Defends Airline After December Disruptions
IndiGo, India's biggest airline, had some big problems in early December.
Many flights were cancelled or delayed, which upset a lot of customers.
The airline's boss, Pieter Elbers, said that even though those three days were bad, they shouldn't ruin the airline's 20-year history.
He promised they would learn from this and do better.
The government's aviation agency fined the airline and told them to fix their problems.
They also had to give a big promise to the government that they would make things better.
The airline is still planning to grow and get new planes.
IndiGo faced significant operational disruptions in early December, with 2,507 flights cancelled and 1,852 delayed, impacting over 300,000 passengers.
CEO Pieter Elbers acknowledged the disruptions but emphasized that three days of issues should not define the airline's 20-year history.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) fined IndiGo Rs 22.20 crore and required a Rs 50 crore bank guarantee for systemic corrections.
Elbers stated that the airline will use the experience to improve and come back stronger.
The disruptions and regulatory actions were discussed during the aviation summit Wings India 2026.
