Delhi Police Chief Orders Action on Crime Data Manipulation
Imagine the police get a lot of calls about things that happen, like a car getting a flat tire or someone losing their wallet.
Normally, when they get a serious call, they write it down as an official report called an FIR.
But some people in Delhi were not writing down all the serious calls they got.
They were just making the calls disappear without making an official report.
The head of the police in Delhi, Commissioner Golchha, noticed this and is very unhappy.
He said this is not okay because it makes it look like there are fewer crimes than there really are.
So, he is putting new rules in place to make sure all serious calls get written down properly.
He is also making sure police officers ask people who called if their problem was fixed.
For online scams involving a lot of money, they now have to write an FIR for sure.
This is to make sure everyone knows the real crime numbers.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha expressed concern over unregistered crime incidents.
A trend of not converting Police Control Room (PCR) calls into FIRs to show lower crime rates has been identified.
Corrective measures include strengthening PCR feedback, increasing manpower, and closer monitoring of the 'Green Sheet' mechanism.
Mandatory FIR registration is now required for cybercrime financial cheating cases exceeding Rs 1 lakh, effective November 1.
Discrepancies between PCR calls and FIRs suggest official crime statistics do not accurately represent the crime situation in Delhi.
