India's Power Ministry Outlines Energy Storage Roadmap
India is working to reduce the amount of pollution it creates compared to how much it produces.
They want to get half of their electricity from clean sources like the sun and wind by 2030.
They are also investing in big batteries to store energy, so they can use the clean energy even when the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing.
The government is also helping by offering money to build these batteries and making it cheaper to send the electricity through power lines.
India is committed to reducing emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% from 2005 levels.
The goal is to achieve 50% of installed capacity from non-fossil fuels by 2030.
Energy storage systems (ESS) are key to ensuring a reliable power supply from renewable energy.
43 GWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects are supported by the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme.
Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charges are waived for BESS and Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) projects.
