Chennai Port Begins Monthly Service Linking Asian Trade Hubs
Hai An Lines has started a monthly shipping service from Chennai.
Its ships will also stop at ports in Malaysia, Vietnam and South China.
The first ship to make the call was M.V. HAIAN BETA.
Chennai Port says the service gives businesses another regular way to move goods.
India and Vietnam already trade many kinds of products, including machinery, electronics and food products.
Articles give slightly different rounded figures for the value of that trade, but both report that it grew in FY2025–26.
India and Vietnam want to work toward $25 billion in trade by 2030.
The new route may help businesses connect with markets across Asia.
Chennai Port welcomed the HAIAN CVI monthly container service operated by Hai An Lines.
The route runs Chennai–Port Klang West–Haiphong–Nansha, connecting India with Malaysia, Vietnam and South China.
The inaugural call was made by M.V. HAIAN BETA at Chennai Port’s DP World-operated container terminal.
India–Vietnam merchandise trade was reported at $18.28 billion in FY2025–26, up 15.98% year-on-year; another article rounded the figure to $18 billion and 16%.
India and Vietnam have agreed to pursue measures toward $25 billion in bilateral trade by 2030.
