Moldovan Murder Convict Arrested in LA After Fleeing Sentence
A woman from Moldova named Victoria Sorocean was arrested in Los Angeles.
She was convicted in her home country for a very cruel murder where she and another person tortured someone, beat them, and then threw them out of a high window.
She was sentenced to 17 years in prison but ran away before going to jail.
US immigration officers caught her after she had been in the US and tried to delay being sent back.
Officials are now saying this shows problems with how some people are allowed to stay in the country.
She is currently in custody and will have to go through legal steps before being sent back to Moldova.
Victoria Sorocean, a Moldovan woman convicted of murder, was arrested in Los Angeles by ICE.
She was convicted in 2013 in Moldova for premeditated murder with 'exceptional cruelty', involving torture and throwing the victim from a ninth-floor window.
Sorocean was sentenced to 17 years in prison but fled Moldova before serving her sentence.
She was initially detained by ICE in 2020, later released in 2022, and has filed asylum claims.
Department of Homeland Security officials stated Sorocean is pending deportation proceedings.
