Germany Offers Cash to Afghans to Drop Resettlement Plans
Germany has a special program to help certain Afghans, like those in danger or who worked with Germans, come live there.
But, this program was paused by the current government to limit how many people come to Germany.
Now, about 2,000 Afghans who were already approved for this program are stuck in Pakistan.
Germany is offering these Afghans money, several thousand euros, if they agree to give up their chance to move to Germany.
If they take the money, they must return to Afghanistan or another country.
People who already have official approval will still be allowed in after checks, but others won't.
This is part of the government's plan to control who enters the country.
Germany is offering cash incentives to Afghan nationals stranded in Pakistan.
The offer is for individuals to abandon their applications for a resettlement program to Germany.
The program was originally intended for Afghans at risk under Taliban rule or those who assisted German forces.
Germany's current government froze the program to control migration.
Accepting the cash offer means giving up the possibility of relocating to Germany.
