Borer Infestation Epidemic in MP's Sal Forest
There's a big problem in the forests of Dindori district in Madhya Pradesh.
Tiny insects called borers are attacking the sal trees.
Over 1.47 lakh trees are affected, and the forest department is trying to stop the spread.
They're collecting the insects and paying local people to help.
The government wants to cut down the affected trees to prevent the infestation from getting worse.
This happened before in 1997, and they had to cut down many trees then too.
The insects like the wet and humid weather, which is why they're spreading so much now.
Borer infestation has affected 1,47,380 sal trees in Dindori district, Madhya Pradesh.
The infestation is spread over 30,000 hectares in three forest ranges: East Karanjia, West Karanji, and Samanpur.
The forest department is collecting borers and paying locals Rs 2 per insect for their help.
Over 14 lakh borers have been collected by July 21, with an estimated total of 25 lakh.
The state government seeks permission from the Centre to fell around 1.5 lakh affected trees.
