Telangana Police to Register FIRs at Homes
In Telangana, India, the police can now go to people's homes to write down reports of crimes, instead of making people go to the police station.
This is happening for certain serious cases, like crimes against women, children, or crimes that hurt people or their property.
Usually, in India, people have to go to the nearest police station to report a crime.
But now, in Telangana, the police can come to the person's home to do this, which might make it easier and safer for people to report these kinds of crimes.
The police will also record statements and secure the crime scene at the same location.
This new rule starts on January 27, 2026.
Telangana Police can now register FIRs at complainants' homes in certain sensitive cases.
This is a first in the country, according to the Telangana Police.
Eligible cases include offences against women and children, offences affecting the human body, offences against property, and offences under various acts like POCSO, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities), Prohibition of Child Marriage, and Telangana Prohibition of Ragging.
The existing norm across India is that crimes must be registered at the nearby police station.
This change aims to facilitate the registration of FIRs in sensitive cases, reducing trauma and inconvenience for victims.
