Telangana Court Blocks Ticket Hike for 'The Raja Saab'
The Telangana High Court canceled a government order that would have raised ticket prices for the movie 'The Raja Saab'.
A lawyer named Vijay Gopal argued that the government didn't have the right to do this.
The court agreed and said the government was trying to bypass the rules.
The government had allowed higher prices for a few days around the movie's release, but the court said no.
The court also asked why the government kept making these mistakes.
The movie, starring Prabhas, had mixed reviews and made ₹63.3 crore on its first day.
The Telangana High Court struck down a government memo that allowed a hike in cinema ticket prices for 'The Raja Saab'.
The court ruled that the Home Secretary lacked authority to approve the hike, which should have been decided by the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police and district collectors.
The memo had proposed a price increase of ₹105 for single screens and ₹132 for multiplexes from January 9–11, followed by a smaller hike from January 12–18.
The court criticized the government for issuing 'clever memos' to bypass legal norms and for contradicting public statements about the ticket hike.
The scrapped memo also directed that 20% of the revenue from the price hike be shared with the Film Federation.
