VinFast Expands to India with EV Manufacturing
VinFast, a company from Vietnam, is building a big factory in India to make electric cars.
They started this factory in 2024 and will make their first cars in 2025.
The factory is in a place called Thoothukudi and will make two types of electric SUVs called the VF 6 and VF 7.
VinFast wants to make a lot of cars here, maybe up to 150,000 every year.
They are also planning to buy parts from local suppliers in India.
This is a big deal because it means more electric cars will be available in India, and it might create more jobs.
VinFast is serious about staying in India for a long time.
VinFast, backed by Vingroup, is establishing a large EV manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India.
The company has invested US$500 million initially, with a potential total investment of up to US$2 billion.
VinFast launched two electric SUV models, the VF 6 and VF 7, targeting the mainstream crossover segment in India.
The plant, which began production in 2025, has an initial capacity of 50,000 units per year, scalable to 150,000 units.
VinFast plans to localize sourcing and is in talks with component suppliers to shift production to India, aiming to make the plant an export hub.
