Northeast Frontier Railway Advances Dimapur-Kohima Rail Project
The Northeast Frontier Railway is building a new train line that will connect the city of Kohima in Nagaland to the rest of India's train network for the first time.
This project is very important because it will make travel easier and more reliable for people in the region.
The train line is 78.42 kilometers long and includes many tunnels and bridges.
Some parts of the train line are already finished, and trains are running between Shokhuvi and Guwahati in Assam, as well as Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh.
The new train line will help people get to schools, hospitals, and jobs more easily.
The entire project is expected to be completed by December 2029, which will be a big step forward for the region.
The Northeast Frontier Railway is constructing the Dimapur–Kohima (Zubza) New Railway Line Project to connect Nagaland’s capital, Kohima, to the national railway network.
The project spans 78.42 kilometers and includes 8 stations, 20 tunnels, 30 major bridges, and 150 minor bridges.
Two sections of the project have been commissioned: Dhansiri–Shokhuvi (16.5 km) in 2021 and Shokhuvi–Molvom (14.64 km) in 2025.
Regular train services are operating from Shokhuvi, connecting it with Guwahati in Assam and Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh.
The project aims to improve access to education, healthcare, employment, and markets, reducing dependence on road transport, with a target completion date of December 2029.
