Punjab NGO Reunites Tamil Mother with Son After 23 Years
A 68‑year‑old mother named R Sundari had been looking for her son Prakash for almost 23 years.
Prakash disappeared in 2003 after a fight with his brother and was later found in Punjab working as a bonded labourer on a dairy farm.
A local NGO, Apna Farz Sewa Society, rescued him in July 2022 and helped him recover his health and memory.
The NGO worked with officials in both Tamil Nadu and Punjab to confirm his identity and bring him home.
On July 28, 2023, Prakash and his mother were reunited in a video call that made everyone very happy.
The case shows how bonded labour can trap people and how NGOs can help bring families back together.
The government is now looking into compensation and legal action against those who kept him in bondage.
The story also highlights the cooperation between different state administrations.
It reminds us that families can be reunited even after many years of separation.
R Sundari, 68, reunited with son Prakash after 23 years of separation.
Prakash had vanished in 2003 and was later found bonded as a labourer in Punjab.
Apna Farz Sewa Society rescued him in July 2022 and facilitated his rehabilitation.
District administrations in Punjab and Tamil Nadu verified his identity and coordinated the reunion.
The case prompted the Labour Department and Social Security, Women and Child Development Department to seek compensation and legal action.
