RBI Updates Digital Payment Security with New Authentication
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is making digital payments in India more secure.
Instead of just using passwords, starting April 2026, digital payments will require at least two ways to prove it's authorized.
This could be a password plus another method.
The new rules allow options beyond SMS one-time passwords.
This means it might be harder for people to steal your money.
Banks will also look at your spending habits to check for risks, and they must fully compensate customers for security failures.
RBI is updating digital payment security measures.
New regulations go into effect starting April 1, 2026.
The RBI aims to move away from sole reliance on OTPs.
Authentication methods will include password, biometrics, or other methods.
Customer compensation is mandatory for security failures.
