IIM Jammu hosts Basohli art workshop
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu is hosting a special workshop to teach students about Basohli painting, a 300-year-old art form from the Jammu and Kashmir region.
This workshop is unique because it is being led by women artists who have a special certification called a GI tag for their skills.
They will teach students how to make natural pigments, draw sketches, and create intricate designs.
The workshop will also include storytelling and live demonstrations.
The goal is to keep this traditional art alive and to make sure it is preserved for future generations.
The workshop is part of a bigger effort to include more Indian cultural knowledge in education.
IIM Jammu is hosting a week-long Basohli painting workshop from December 8-14.
The workshop is led by GI tag-certified women artists and renowned artists like Sohan Singh Billowaria, Rajni Bala, and Sonam Jamwal.
Students will learn pigment preparation, sketching, stylisation, border design, divine iconography, and final detailing.
The workshop includes storytelling circles, live demonstrations, and mindful art reflections.
The initiative aims to preserve the 300-year-old Basohli art form and aligns with the National Education Policy's vision of integrating Indian knowledge systems into contemporary education.
