NHRC seeks report on Dehradun killing of Tripura student
A young man named Anjel Chakma from Tripura was studying in Dehradun.
On December 9, some men started saying mean things to him and his brother.
When Anjel stood up for himself and said he was Indian, the men got angry and hurt him badly with sticks and knives.
He fought for his life in the hospital for 17 days but sadly died.
The government is now looking into what happened and wants to make sure students from the Northeast are safe.
Some people say the attack was because of racism, while others say it was just a fight that got out of hand.
The NHRC issued a notice to the Uttarakhand government seeking a report on the murder of Anjel Chakma, a Tripura student attacked in Dehradun.
Anjel Chakma was allegedly attacked by a racist mob on December 9 and died on December 26 after 17 days in the hospital.
The attackers used caste-based slurs and assaulted Chakma when he objected and asserted his Indian identity.
