Mann Accuses SGPC of Shielding Masters in Missing Saroops Case
Punjab's Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, has accused the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) of not doing enough to find 328 missing sacred copies of the Guru Granth Sahib.
He says the SGPC is using the Akal Takht as a shield to protect important people involved.
The SGPC, however, says the state government is interfering in religious matters.
The Punjab government filed a police report (FIR) to investigate, but the SGPC claims this is wrong.
The missing copies were first noticed in 2020, and the SGPC had earlier passed a resolution to take action but didn't follow through.
Mann wants the SGPC to cooperate with the investigation to find the missing copies and punish those responsible.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the SGPC of failing to find 328 missing sacred copies of the Guru Granth Sahib.
An FIR was filed on December 7, 2023, against 16 people, including a former SGPC chief secretary, over the disappearance of the saroops in 2020.
The SGPC accused the state government of interfering in religious matters and claimed the FIR was a challenge to the Akal Takht.
Mann alleged that the SGPC is using the Akal Takht as a shield to protect influential persons involved in the disappearance.
The SGPC had passed a resolution in 2020 for severe action against erring employees but did not take any action, allegedly to protect influential persons.
