ECI Releases Draft Electoral Rolls
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released new lists of voters in West Bengal and Rajasthan.
They removed over 58 lakh names in West Bengal and nearly 42 lakh names in Rajasthan.
These names were removed because some people had died, moved away, or couldn't be found.
Others were removed because they were listed more than once.
People who think their names were wrongly removed can ask to have their names put back on the list.
The ECI is doing this to make sure the voter lists are correct before the next elections.
Some political parties are arguing about whether the lists are being changed fairly.
In East Burdwan, over 2 lakh names were deleted, with many being marked as missing despite submitting their forms.
The final voter list will be published on February 14, 2026, after hearing claims and objections.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the draft electoral rolls for West Bengal, deleting over 58 lakh voter names.
Nearly 42 lakh voter names were deleted in Rajasthan during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
In East Burdwan, over 2 lakh names were deleted, with 1 lakh deceased and 1.1 lakh under the 'no mapping' category.
Aggrieved persons can submit claims to have their names reinstated from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026, in West Bengal.
Political parties, including the TMC and BJP, have differing views on the fairness of the voter list changes.
