GTA Teachers' Jobs Cancellation Case Heard
Some teachers in the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) in Darjeeling had their jobs taken away by a court order.
They asked another court to help them keep their jobs.
The new court listened to everyone's arguments and will decide on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, some leaders in the GTA want to talk to a person appointed by the central government, while the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, doesn't agree with this appointment.
Some people think this is part of a bigger political fight ahead of the next elections in West Bengal.
The division bench of the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of Calcutta High Court heard a petition against the cancellation of jobs of 313 primary teachers under the GTA.
The jobs were terminated following an order by Justice Biswajit Basu, and the teachers appealed for a stay on the order.
The division bench reserved its judgment, which will be pronounced on Wednesday.
The state government had regularized the jobs of several hundred voluntary teachers in 2019, but the 313 teachers in question were not included in that list.
The affected teachers are eagerly awaiting the division bench’s verdict to see if it upholds the single bench order or grants a stay on the ruling.
