Akali Dal Seeks Revival with Rebel Leader Returns
The Akali Dal party is trying to get stronger by welcoming back former leaders.
One of these leaders, Sikander Singh Maluka, has just rejoined.
The party's leader, Sukhbir Singh Badal, wants these returning members to help win an upcoming election in Ludhiana.
The party hopes this will help them win back support and compete in future elections.
Maluka had previously distanced himself from the party when his family joined the BJP.
Sikander Singh Maluka, a former Akali Dal minister, rejoined the party, marking the return of three rebels this month.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the SAD president, assigned Maluka a campaign role for the Ludhiana West bypoll.
The SAD hopes the return of former leaders will help regain lost ground in the state.
Maluka had distanced himself from the SAD in April 2024 after family members joined the BJP.
