Colonial-Era Blackmail Scandal Involving Maharaja Hari Singh
A long time ago, in 1921, a young prince named Hari Singh from India was traveling in Europe.
Some bad people in London, including a lawyer named Hobbs and a man named Captain Arthur, wanted to trick the prince.
They introduced him to a woman named Mrs. Robinson, pretending she was a rich widow.
The prince liked her and went to Paris with her.
The bad people planned to use this situation to ask the prince for a lot of money, but we don't know if they succeeded.
Maharaja Hari Singh, then 26, was sent on a tour of Europe by his uncle, Maharaja Pratap Singh.
A group of criminals in London, led by a lawyer named Hobbs, plotted to blackmail the young prince.
Captain Arthur, the Maharaja's A.D.C., helped introduce Mrs. Robinson to Hari Singh as a rich widow.
