Nvidia Plans H200 AI Chip Shipments to China
Nvidia, a big company that makes computer chips, is planning to send some of its powerful AI chips called H200 to China.
They want to send between 40,000 and 80,000 of these chips before the Lunar New Year in mid-February.
However, the Chinese government still needs to approve this plan.
The chips are part of an older series but are still very powerful and in demand.
The US government has also changed its rules to allow these sales, but with a 25% fee.
This is a big deal because the US previously banned selling advanced AI chips to China.
Chinese companies are interested in these chips because they are much more powerful than the ones they can currently buy.
The Chinese government is also thinking about how to support their own chip industry while allowing these imports.
Nvidia plans to ship 40,000 to 80,000 H200 AI chips to China before mid-February.
Shipments are contingent on Chinese government approval.
US allows H200 sales to China with a 25% fee, a shift from Biden's ban.
H200 chips are powerful and in demand, despite being an older model.
Chinese officials are considering requiring domestic chip purchases with H200 imports.
