Amazon Scientists Simulate Future Climate With CO2 Experiment
Imagine scientists built a special part of the Amazon jungle that's like a time machine.
They have big steel rings that go around groups of trees.
Inside some of these rings, they are adding extra carbon dioxide gas, just like how scientists think the air will be in the future, maybe in 2050 or 2060.
They do this to see how the trees and plants will grow and react when there's more of this gas.
Other tree groups are left alone to be like a comparison.
This helps them learn if the rainforest can handle the warmer, changing air.
Knowing this is important because the Amazon is a very big and important forest that helps keep our planet healthy.
The information gathered will be shared at a big climate meeting called COP30.
Scientists in the Amazon are running a climate experiment called AmazonFACE to simulate future atmospheric conditions.
The project involves fumigating trees in controlled experimental rings with elevated levels of carbon dioxide.
This experiment aims to understand how the rainforest biome adapts to predicted climate change scenarios.
It is the first experiment of its kind conducted in a large, natural tropical forest.
Findings will be relevant for discussions at the upcoming COP30 United Nations climate summit hosted by Brazil.
