Mumbai Hospitals Reserve Beds Ahead of Dahi Handi Injuries
Mumbai hospitals are preparing for the Dahi Handi festival on Saturday.
During the festival, Govindas make tall human pyramids to break a pot hanging above them.
People can fall and get hurt while making the pyramids.
Hospitals have set aside more than 100 beds, although one report says the number is more than 150.
Doctors who treat emergencies, broken bones and eye injuries will be ready.
Hospitals are also checking that medicines and medical supplies are available.
The JJ Hospital group has reserved 10 intensive-care beds and 30 emergency beds.
Officials are taking these steps because many Govindas were injured during celebrations in recent years.
The BMC says more than 100 beds are ready across civic hospitals, while another report puts the total at more than 150.
Preparations cover 16 suburban hospitals and major facilities including KEM, Nair, Sion and Cooper hospitals.
Emergency, orthopaedic, trauma, surgery and ophthalmology teams are being kept ready for possible injuries.
Hospitals have been instructed to stock medicines, injections, dressings and plaster-of-Paris material, while keeping X-ray and sonography services functional.
The preparations follow reports of more than 200 injuries in 2022, 245 in 2024 and 318 in 2025.
