₹16,649 crore unclaimed in LIC and EPF accounts

₹16,649 crore unclaimed in LIC and EPF accounts

There is a lot of money, ₹16,649.06 crore, that people have not claimed from their life insurance policies with LIC and their Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) accounts.

The government has shared this information in Parliament.

LIC has ₹7,318.50 crore in unclaimed policyholder accounts, and EPF has ₹9,330.56 crore in inoperative accounts.

LIC is trying to contact policyholders through letters, SMS, and even using a Credit Bureau Agency to find their details.

For EPF, the government has started a new system where money in inoperative accounts with small balances can be automatically sent to the members' bank accounts linked to their Aadhaar.

If the money in insurance policies is not claimed for more than 10 years, it goes to a fund for senior citizens.

The government is encouraging people to check and claim their money.
