Madhya Pradesh Farmers Rally for GST Relief, Better Crop Prices
Farmers in three parts of Madhya Pradesh held rallies to discuss problems affecting their farms.
They used tractors and bullock carts in the demonstrations.
The farmers belong to the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh.
They gave memoranda to local officials addressed to senior government leaders.
Their requests included lower taxes on farm equipment and supplies.
They also wanted better prices for crops such as cotton, maize and soybean.
Some farmers asked for more irrigation water and greater compensation when land is acquired.
In Bagh, farmers also said the area should be declared drought-hit because of low rainfall.
The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh organized tractor and bullock-cart rallies in Khetia, Bhikangaon and Bagh.
Khetia farmers submitted a memorandum seeking lower agricultural GST, better crop prices and restrictions on genetically modified seeds.
