RVNL in Talks with Rosatom to Build Nuclear Reactors for Railway Projects
RVNL, a railway company, is talking to Russia's Rosatom about building small nuclear reactors, called SMRs, for four major railway projects.
These reactors would help power the railways, use less space, and produce green energy.
This plan is part of a goal to cut down on using fuels that pollute the air and aligns with Indian Railways' target to be emissions-free by 2030.
The government has also set aside money to develop these SMRs.
RVNL is discussing with Rosatom to build Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) for four railway projects.
The projects include the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag line.
The aim is to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and achieve net-zero emissions by 2030.
Rosatom proposed to build eight 55 MW SMRs for the projects.
The Indian government allocated Rs. 20,000 crore to develop SMRs.
