Satish Gujral Honoured with Commemorative Postage Stamp on Birth Centenary
Some special mail stamps were made in India to remember a great artist named Satish Gujral.
He was a painter, a sculptor, and a writer who made beautiful art for many years.
The stamps celebrate the year he would have turned one hundred years old.
A minister from the Indian government, Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, revealed the special stamp at a big ceremony in New Delhi.
The picture on the stamp is extra special because it is a self-portrait, a painting Mr. Gujral made of himself.
He only painted four self-portraits in his whole life.
It shows his face in black and white, like a photograph, with bright colors all around it.
The painting belongs to his family and was a gift they have treasured.
Now everyone who gets this stamp can remember the wonderful art he made.
Raseel Gujral Art Legacy (RGAL), with India's Department of Posts, released a commemorative postage stamp marking the birth centenary of Padma Vibhushan Satish Gujral.
The stamp was unveiled by Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia at a ceremony at Bikaner House, New Delhi.
Gujral was a painter, sculptor, muralist, architect and writer, regarded as one of the most distinguished figures in post-Independence Indian art.
The stamp's artwork comes from a rare self-portrait Gujral painted circa 2010, one of only four self-portraits he created in his entire career.
The portrait, held in the private collection of Raseel Gujral Ansal, shows the artist's face in a photorealistic black-and-white treatment against a fully coloured composition.
