India Open Fiasco Sparks Concerns Over Infrastructure
The India Open badminton tournament had many problems, like monkeys in the stands, dirty toilets, and patchy lighting.
Some parts of the court were too bright while others were too dark.
The Sports Minister met with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to find solutions.
SAI is responsible for keeping the stadium clean and in good condition.
The minister wants to make sure these problems don't happen again, especially because the same stadium will host the Badminton World Championships later this year.
The tournament's issues might also affect India's bid to host the 2036 Olympics, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is watching how well India can organise big events.
The India Open badminton tournament faced severe organisational and infrastructure issues, including monkeys in the stands, filthy toilets, and patchy lighting.
International players complained about the weird and patchy lighting, with some parts of the court in spotlight and others in shadow.
The Sports Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, met with SAI officials to address these lapses and prevent a repeat of the fiasco.
The incident may negatively impact India's 2036 Olympic bid, as the IOC considers the country's ability to host international events.
The Badminton Association of India needs to improve quickly, as the BWF World Championships will be held in Delhi in August 2024.
