108 Ambulance Staff Protest Continues in Assam
In Assam, India, ambulance staff are protesting because they want their jobs to be made permanent.
The company that runs the ambulances, EMRI, has fired over 1,000 workers who joined the protest.
EMRI says they are hiring more than 900 new workers to keep the ambulances running.
Right now, only half of the ambulances have the usual medical staff, but the company says they are working to fix this soon.
The protest is still going on, and the workers say they won't stop until the government listens to them.
The All Assam 108 Mrityunjoy Employees Association is protesting for the regularization of ambulance staff services.
EMRI Green Health Services has terminated over 1,000 employees for participating in the protest.
EMRI has recruited over 900 new staff members in the last week to stabilize ambulance operations.
Around 750 ambulances are currently operational in Assam, with only 50% having EMTs and nurses onboard.
EMRI assures that all patient transport needs are being met and expects to fully restore services soon.
