Marriage Does Not Automatically Close Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts

The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana helps families save money for a girl’s future.

The account is opened in the girl’s name, while her parents or guardian manage it until she turns 18.

It can be opened for a girl who is younger than 10.

Families must deposit at least ₹250 each year, and they can deposit up to ₹1.5 lakh.

Deposits are made for 15 years, but the account normally matures after 21 years.

Getting married does not automatically close the account.

After turning 18, the account holder can request early closure because of marriage.

The request must be made between one month before the planned marriage and three months after it, with the required documents.
