India Hosts BRICS Summit as Iran War Tests Unity

India Hosts BRICS Summit as Iran War Tests Unity

India is hosting a meeting of BRICS countries in New Delhi.

The meeting will take place on September 12 and 13.

BRICS has grown to include countries with different views and interests.

Iran and the United Arab Emirates are on opposite sides of the war involving Iran.

This makes it difficult for BRICS members to agree on a statement about the conflict.

In May, BRICS foreign ministers could not release a joint statement because of disagreements between Iran and the UAE.

Leaders may try to find words that both countries can accept.

China’s Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin are expected to attend.

India may also use the summit for talks with China and Russia.

The meeting will show whether the larger BRICS group can remain united.
